The Loft Conversion Build Process
Once designs and approvals are in place, the construction phase of a loft conversion begins. This page explains the building process step by step, focusing on the key stages involved in transforming an existing roof space into a finished, usable room. From structural alterations and floor installation through to insulation, fire safety measures and final finishes, this guide outlines how the build typically progresses on site.
STEP 1
Scaffolding is erected and an opening is formed to allow materials to be taken into the loft space.
STEP 2
Materials arrive on site. Then are lifted on the landing platform.
STEP 3
Steels are carefully positioned in the loft area to enable the installation of the floor joists and the removal of the cross members
STEP 4
After the steels are in position timbers are then adapted and added to form the general loft space.
STEP 5
Internal timber partitions are then built which form the separate rooms. Electrical and plumbing installation can then take place.
STEP 6
Openings are made ready to accept the roof lights.
STEP 7
Roof lights are installed. Generally any window configuration can be achieved.
STEP 8
Final touches are then applied, including floors and decoration.
